Manager

At Sudolabs, we help startups and enterprises all over the world to drive digital innovations in their businesses. With a large number of happy clients, we have some experience in delivering great software, but there is always space for improvement. And that's the main responsibility of engineering managers, to work with our engineering team on making our service better through leading teams, delivering projects, coaching, and mentoring engineers, improving our tech stack and internal processes, helping our sales and marketing department to attract new clients, collaborate with data science, product, and design teams, and basically anything that could help us deliver better service for our clients.

Type of contract: full-time or trade license

Place of work: Kosice or remote

Start date: Q3 2024

Compensation: €38-46/hour (depends on your experience and skills)

As the Engineering Manager, we expect you to:

  • Build the engineering team by finding, inspiring, and retaining talented engineers.
  • Lead the engineering teams to execute and deliver projects successfully.
  • If needed, be able to deliver work as a software engineer and be responsible for architecture design, feature implementation, and code reviews.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to other engineers, manage their career development, perform and evaluate performance reviews.
  • Be a mentor and coach, talk to people regularly to better understand their situation, and help them do their best work.
  • Actively work with the department leadership and other managers to align everyone on the same goals and values.
  • Actively promote a culture of lifelong learning and create opportunities for knowledge sharing.
  • Actively seek improvements in our processes and practices and always think about improving our work environment.
  • Promote effective communication in the organization by eliminating blockers, creating clarity, resolving conflicts, strengthening relationships, and promoting sympathy and understanding.
  • Meet with potential clients and actively work on influencing them towards cooperation with Sudolabs.
  • Actively cooperate with our sales and marketing team in order to find and close new projects.
  • Work closely with our executive team on defining a strategy to drive our business through engineering.

Who are we looking for?

  • Strong technical background
    • Experience with our tech stack (or at least willingness and drive to get fast into it)
    • Strong in system design and architecture of digital products
    • Drive and motivation for keeping up with modern trends in web development
    • (Nice to have) Recent hands-on experience with delivery
  • E2E project delivery and leadership
    • Years of experience delivering E2E projects through smaller teams (3-10 people)
    • Experience with prototyping and MVP delivery
    • Recent experience with directly leading an engineering team
  • Business and product-oriented mindset
    • A few years of experience with delivering digital products E2E
    • Experience from working in startups or in product companies with product managers and designers, ideally if you have experience working as a PM
    • Track record of working with the executive team on driving business through engineering
    • Have at least high-level product management knowledge, ideally deep PM knowledge
    • (Nice to have) Experience with representing engineering in sales or marketing-related activities
    • (Nice to have) Experience from a service firm, ideally consultancy
  • Leadership and managerial experience
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts simply to a non-technical audience
    • At least a few years of experience with people management (full responsibility for people)
    • Track record of growing people up through mentorship and coaching
    • Track record of successfully motivating people to achieve things that were outside of their comfort zone or would be considered their top performance
    • (Nice to have) Experience with performance reviews, salary evaluation systems, and budgeting
    • (Nice to have) Experience in building (hiring) a team (At least 10 people or a few years of active interviewing.)
    • (Nice to have) Track record of successful large engineering-related initiatives (innovations, migrations, transitions) - the ability to communicate and motivate larger groups of people
